Artist, poet, novelist, photographer, and editor, the polymath Charles Henri Ford was born in Mississippi in 1908, and had a career which spanned much of the 20th century. A friend and collaborator of many of the major writers and poets of the avant-garde, including Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, Djuna Barnes, Andre Breton, Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol, he was primarily known as the editor of VIEW, one of the most important avant-garde magazines of the 20th century.

Both part-time residents of Kathmandu, Charles Henri Ford and Ira Cohen developed a close friendship from the 1970s until Fords death in 2002. Cohen also served as a publisher and champion of Ford's work, publishing his 7 Poems via his Bardo Matrix Press in 1974, as well as poems by Ford in journals like The Great Society. This poster, based on an iconic photograph of Charles Henri Ford taken by Ira Cohen, is a colorful portrait of an underground hero.
