A Reading for the Benefit of Leroi Jones at the Living Theatre

The Living Theatre

New York: Living Theatre, 1963. [8.5” x 11”] Offset flier. Fine. A benefit for the poet and editor LeRoi Jones [later Amiri Baraka], who was at the time ill and unable to work. His legendary work of musicology Blues People, was at this time forthcoming, and would be published later that year by William Morrow. A seminal beat poet and publisher, he was author to such books as Preface to a Twenty-Volume suicide Note, Blues People, and its 1969 sequel of sorts, Black Music. Later in life he would become the poet Laureate of New Jersey. He was also an editor or played a decisive role in many of the small magazines of the mimeograph revolution including Yugen, Kulchur, The Floating Bear, and Totem Press.
